Instagram introduces anti-bullying feature

Instagram had already declared war on bullying: “We are in a pivotal moment,” says Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri: “We want to lead the industry in this fight.” The new initiative of Instagram comes from the hand of AI artificial intelligence: flagged comments and the ability for users to restrict accounts from publicly commenting on their posts.

Instagram now asks bullies: "Are you sure you want to post it?":

The company it’s rolling out a new feature that’ll leverage AI to flag potentially offensive comments and ask the commenter if they really want to follow through with posting. They’ll be given the opportunity to undo their comment, and Instagram says that during tests, it encouraged “some” people to reflect and undo what they wrote. 

If the user taps “learn more”, a notice informs: “We are asking people to rethink comments that seem similar to others that have been reported.”

Create compelling video content with Ads Manager editing tools

Facebook recently announced new ways to easily edit existing video with three new video editing tools: automatic cropping, video trimming and image and text overlays.

These tools are already available in Ads Manager and can help you to reduce the resources to create new video content for your campaigns. 

How to manually crop a video in Ads Manager: 

  • Upload your new Video or select a video from your library.
  • Click Customize Video to open the Edit Video window and then select the Crop tab on the left of the window.
  • Choose a desired aspect ratio. For example: 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:5, or 2:3.
  • Move the cropper to show the parts in your video you want to highlight. This step is optional. You can click Preview to hide the cropping grid.
  • Click Apply Changes. That´s it! Your video is now cropped!

How to Trim the Duration of a Video Ad:

  • Upload your new Video or select a video from your library.
  • Click Customize Video to open the Edit Video window.

Instagram Added a Group Chat Sticker in Stories

Instagram’s new "Join chat sticker" lets you ask your followers to join a new group chat. 

The feature was recently announced on Instagram’s official Twitter account: “Introducing the new chat sticker in Stories. Now, there’s an easy way to start conversations with a group of friends right from your story.”

Here's how it works:

  • Go to your Stories
  • Click on the Sticker button on the top right corner, where you will now find a Chat sticker button.
  • Then just name the chat, post to your Story, and let the chat requests pour in.

People viewing Stories can request to join group direct message conversations tied to those Stories, and all requests must be approved by the Story creators.

WhatsApp test shares your Status to Facebook and other apps. The test started on June 26, from now on users in WhatsApp’s beta program will start to see a new sharing option beneath their status, which can be used to post a status directly to their Facebook story or send it to another app like Google Photos, Gmail, or Instagram.

WhatsApp Status is the service’s Instagram Stories-style feature that lets you post images, text, and videos on your profile that disappear after 24 hours.

According to The Verge, "WhatsApp won't require users to directly link their Facebook account to the chat app in order to port their Status to their Story".

Google is testing a carousel format for text-based ads

Google is testing a carousel format for text-based search ads on mobile, as the tech giant considers adding more inventory on tiny screens without disrupting user experiences. In this carousel format you can swipe left to right between ads and this carousel is named "people also considered."

SemRush, an all-in-one Marketing Toolkit, spotted the test on Friday and shared an image showcasing it on Twitter.

Facebook's Libra: a digital currency for the social network

Facebook announced an ambitious plan to launch a cryptocurrency named Libra, a new digital currency similar to bitcoin (a way of sending money across borders without incurring significant fees) for global use, one that could generate more e-commerce on its services and boost ads on its platforms.

Libra, is being developed by Facebook, but the company intends to share control with a consortium of organizations, including venture capital firms, credit card companies, and other tech giants.

Libra could also open online commerce to huge numbers of people around the world who currently don't have bank accounts or credit cards. Read the press release

Did you know that you can use the Facebook Leads Ads form so that users can make their appointment directly? Adding this type of question to your form improves the user experience and also allows you to generate higher quality leads.

Adding a date / time preference question on your potential customers form can increase the quality of your leads. This question allows people to enter a date / time preference for when they want to participate with you.

This information not only increases the flexibility you have to act with these contacts, but also provides a better experience for the client. By knowing the date / time preference of a potential customer, you can follow up on the requested time window or send a potential customer to the correct person on your team.

You can do the set up directly from Ads Manager, creating a lead ad. When you get to the Custom Question (Optional) section, click + Add Custom Question.

Instagram revealed a new branded content option. Brands can now promote organic branded content posts from creators as ads within the photo- and video-sharing platform’s feed.

Facebook is launching Avatars

Facebook is - finally- launching a new feature: Avatars, a playful way for users to represent themselves in Messenger chats and News Feed comments. This feature lets you customize a virtual lookalike of yourself for use as stickers in chat and comments.

You can personalize your Avatar’s face, hair, and clothes. Here you can see an example:

Avatars is currently only available to users in Australia, but all Facebook users will be able to create them sometime at the end of 2019 or early 2020. We would love to be able to create our avatar now!
